Why phone software updates are important

Oticon Ruby-2A common issue clients report is not being able to pair their hearing aids is something which has nothing to do with hearing aids at all!

The vexed issue for these clients is their hearing aids not connecting to their mobile phone.

If you’re new to hearing aids, you might be surprised to know how many new things your hearing aids can do with the help of your mobile phone.

You can stream phone calls directly to your aids, listen to your favourite music or podcasts, even make your own custom settings to finetune your hearing experience in different environments.

It’s all a wonderful experience until it doesn’t work.

One of the most common reasons why your phone is suddenly not talking to your hearing aids might be the most simple to fix - keep your phone’s software up to date.

Mobile phones (and devices such as tablets) are also mini computers which run on software and that software is updated regularly to improve security, remove outdated features, improve stability and compatibility or to add new features.

Each application you have on your phone is also a separate piece of software which also needs updating.

Because our phones just seem to ‘work’ without any input from us, it can be very easy to overlook the need to update the software - especially since, according to the web site Tech Crunch, the average smartphone user interacts with nine apps a day!

Some apps might update at the same time, but not always. If this is the case, then you might find that some of your favourite apps don’t work properly, and that might include your hearing aid app.

The good news is the fix is as simple as powering down (i.e. switching off) your phone waiting a few minutes (just a minute or two will do), and then switching the phone back on. This will cause the app to look for updates and install them.

You might need to reconnect your hearing aids to your app after this process. We have a blog post with helpful information.
