In this video, our audiologist Emma busts the myth that your hearing will get worse if you don't wear hearing aids. She explains how research has shown how hearing aids help stimulate the brain and support social connection, but do not cause your hearing to improve, get worse or stay the same.

Hi there, this is Emma from Value Hearing. Today, I'm going to talk to you about another very common myth associated with hearing aids and hearing loss: that if you don't get hearing aids your hearing will continue to deteriorate.

This is certainly not the case, hearing aids will not prevent further deterioration of your hearing however, by wearing hearing aids we encourage the brain to hear at more normal levels and keep the brain young as such and stimulated.

This has been shown to prevent social disconnection and therefore prevent dementia or some types of dementia.

Hearing aids however are not going to make your hearing get better, keep it as it is, it shouldn't make it get worse.

Of course, this is a possibility if the hearing aids have not been professionally prescribed.

If you have another hearing and hearing loss myth that you'd like us to confirm or 'bust', let us know.
